I get the impression we won't be able to do so till they have all the submissions in and locked. I think its a good idea on CCP's part (if thats the case)... I'm happy they didn't "forget" about the additional contest they said they were going to do (since the DA mega stuff up) - quite surprised by it - gotten so lazy, better go back to working on the Lammergeier Battleship a little bit more (mostly background stuff.. but I'll probably get stuck into the 7th view again)..
This time I might try doing a redesign of the Raven? .. or maybe a more industrial looking ORE mining ship? (all the mining ships looks too alike :S)

Originally by: Linna Excel Cassus, it would be good to consider for future use at least. Some of the ship designs I've seen in EVE would be a little in drawing form without using extra drawings for some of the intricate/hidden areas. An .obj file would be something for them to look at in 3d and get a good idea of what was going on. It'd be in scale and easy to work with.
BTW, there are free 3d art programs out there.
What free 3D art programs might there be? I have some ideas i think are good and i would like to build on.
I used Google Sketchup for the Lammergeier but it doesn't have an inbuilt renderer but you can export the different windowed views as jpeg etc at whatever resolution you want... and then you can paint over the shaded 7th view in a program like GIMP (though I have Photoshop Elements 7 so I'm happy using that).
You could try using Blender for your 3d but I couldn't get the thing to work on my Windows 7 64 bit system

About to upload my final - though its just Lammergeier. Too busy with other things :S Very annoyed I've run out of time but at least I've prettied Lammergeier up a little bit.
Is it possible if those of us that upload can get a quick 'acceptable to the rules' or not feed back in case we have gotten something wrong? Always worried I haven't done something correctly even after looking at the rules..

Ok still not there - should I resubmit it? I'm assuming it goes through some manual review by CCP in some way before been posted for people to look at on the official contest site.... though if I don't see it I might just keep sending it till I do see it? --------------------------------------------- Francis Wolcott: "I am a sinner that does not expect forgiveness. Well I did but with a slight addition to the presentation and 7th image... so hopefully when they do put it up (if?) they use the newer one and not the older version...

My first entry is up, but my second is still not showing. A lot of those entries shown still need to be culled as they don't follow the rules !
The 2nd upload of the Lammergeier is only 2.05 MB so that should be fine.. still nothing... CCP WAKE UP! --------------------------------------------- Francis Wolcott: "I am a sinner that does not expect forgiveness. But I am not a government official."

Well I hope the files have been recieved. I had the confirmation it has been sent with both of my entries.
Should be ok I hope ?
I guess.. I think we have to leave it at that - if anyone thinks they'd feel safer sending in one submission a couple times over - why not. So far we don't even know what the problem is so I think we can safely assume that the competition deadline is a bit of a joke at this stage if the website doesn't even work properly...?..
Its come to CCPs attention that all is not well and I'm sure they'll do right by all of us even if it means extending time for resubmitting (if needed). --------------------------------------------- Francis Wolcott: "I am a sinner that does not expect forgiveness. Edited by: Ivan Tesla on 22/12/2010 00:36:13 Well its the 22nd and voting is supposed to begin today some time... but since not all the ships are up (I'd say its obvious that most of ships done by people for this competition aren't up there yet) then this contest "may" have embraced the power of fail.
How do you get a simple pew pew spaceship image upload contest completely stuffed up? Was this contest outsourced for someone other than CCP to conduct?
If all the missing submissions aren't up today for voting on then CCP has to come out with an official statement that explains whats going on. Well no they don't, but it would be a good idea. Here is hoping its a minor stuff up and all will be resolved. --------------------------------------------- Francis Wolcott: "I am a sinner that does not expect forgiveness. Edited by: Ivan Tesla on 23/12/2010 02:43:10 Edited by: Ivan Tesla on 23/12/2010 02:42:32 The amount of submissions has not changed (121 submissions) so no they haven't uploaded any new ships at all (unless there are getting rid of some for others?).
Come on CCP what on earth is going on?
If this competition had been conducted in the flesh I can just imagine it - 'initially' a whole bunch of people waiting in line to drop their entries in envelopes into a glossily & professionally decorated cardboard box with an open slit at the top for submissions. Some people can't get theirs in because the slit is too small, they ring the bell next to the box but nobody comes to help (aside from shrugs from other contestants). Some get their envelopes in but are unsure it will be counted since no one is there to process what is inside the box. In fact, there is no official person near the box or the area though there is a huge banner advertising the competition. People can see the CCP employees through the windows next to the box, working away at their computers and after a lot of yelling by some for help, one CPP official, though probably not involved in the competition but wondering what the all the noise is about, pops his head out a building window above the box and says they'll try to find out whats going on. The crowd rejoices.
..the day of voting comes, everyone approaches the glossy box.. which initially had the words 'all submissions are inside' to 'some submissions inside'. Worried looks pass between the contestants and the realisation that there are still no officials around to collect votes, all the boards around the box that are supposed to display the submissions to voters are empty. Some laugh in bemusement and walk away, amazed at how badly run it obviously is and just count their lucky stars that whom ever ran this competition didn't have something more important to organize .. or so they hope.
Beh, my story telling is not great but there you go.
Lets hope DA didn't run this competition for CCP :) I'd laugh so much if that was the case! --------------------------------------------- Francis Wolcott: "I am a sinner that does not expect forgiveness. But I am not a government official."

WooHOO!! I received an email 13 hours ago (oops :) from CCP, they are reviewing and pre-qualify all submissions before posted to the site. They expect it to be completed today or latest tomorrow! This is excellent news, don't know why this isn't indicated on the main site but whatever - a response that says the cogs are working.
Thank you CCP for responding with an explanation.

Did you file a petition or did multiple people get this? I never got an email myself and saw no posting, just wondering, as stil concerns about receivership, will have to see, and whether I rabble or not :p
I sent an email to the [email protected] located on the contest website.. that was several days ago that I sent it. I sent it to state to them I had sent a 2nd submission of the same ship and to explain what I wanted. They could be busy replying to everyone or just those that make the most noise? I got a bad feeling my ship submission might be left out? lol oww ... oh well. --------------------------------------------- Francis Wolcott: "I am a sinner that does not expect forgiveness. Anyway at least they know there is a problem now (if they didn't before) jumping up and down might seem annoying to the calm, but if there is an issue (prehaps there was a problem with uploads and they didn't know? *shrug* anyone's guess) - it can help to direct attention to it for a fixing. :)
Regardless, have a happy and safe Christmas everyone! or Lo Saturnalia

Originally by: Burhtun I'm surprised that Caldari "lambcatcher" didn't make it in there. Maybe they felt it was too similar to the Drake. There are some good designs in there though. Its going to be tough to choose my 3 favorites.
Dammit I wish I knew about this earlier so I could have built another ship. Ah well. Can build them for fun anyway.
Oh, and some of the ships give a 404 when you try to view the full size pic.
Thanks for thinking of my ship :) Yep, I just checked (a usually daily ritual till now) to see if the website was fixed - and ...oohh my ship ain't there :(
I really liked the Lammergeier/Lamb Catcher, thought it had a good chance, maybe I complained too much about the contest? Won't waste my time on it next time and just make ships for the hell of it. Though without money as a prize probably not. (thats what kept family at bay from nagging me not to wasting my time ;)
Need to work on something to make me some money :)

WTF
One thing worth noting here is the problems with the submission page. For example, even though one of my entries is up for voting, it was only accepted after significantly cutting the file size (and making the text un-readable in the process). The original, a 2.5mb .png file (limit of 5mb) would not upload properly and was auto-rejected as not being in the proper format.
Since the lammergeier image linked is a ~2mb file, I would not be surprised if it was never even seen by CCP. This is one of the things I've petitioned (about my second entry, another large file), so hopefully we'll get some answers soon.
I also sent a file that was below 1 MB .... I'm pretty f#%king ****ed off right now - CCP you failed to produce a what should have been a basic 'upload picture here and we'll display it' contest. DA stuffed up over what constitutes good design, but you CCP have definitely stuffed up with your handling of this competition and more so with your programming of the submission site - that doesn't say much for your programming abilities for EVE Online.
I've got two accounts which I sorely want to cancel now (no you can't have my stuff) definitely will one... I don't know, its not like I play the game anymore - I log in, do skills, get out. Then go play TF2, BC2, L4D2 or any other game (boy there is too many cheap games on there!) on steam.

Originally by: Goodwin Generally, I am not this big of an ass... ok that is a lie; I am.
Here is the deal.
The complaining is pointless. I hope to God, none of you are about to enter the working world, and if you are already in it you should know better.
The entry you put in is your resume of sorts. Thousands of resumes a day go through a medium sized company and are trashed so fast they never get more than the first lines read. We are talking simple text docs, not complex images. This is common practice and you will never hear a thing from the company you applied to. This is simply how it works. If CCP decides as a corporate entity to trash entries, that is their call. They don't have to send you a letter or call you and explain. If you are not familiar with the "Art of EVE" book you should look it up. There are actually very specific design descriptions for each race, even down to how the curves in Amarr ships are supposed to start and terminate.
As for the relentless complaining regarding the PNG files. Here is an original thought; try a different browser or convert the image to a different format.
Is Facebook the best way to vote, no - we have established that. Further bashing of that will not change the outcome.
I guess my ultimate point here is, the second contest was a gift, another opportunity. This contest entitles all of us to nothing other than the option to have the Art team see your work. Case and point. I hired an artist from the dA contest to do some ship model building side work for me. My life will continue after this and I will keep doing my own stuff; better for having tried than not.
True if you rock the boat, you usually risk your job or ability to get freelance work. Having done freelance 'favour' work for people I can't really comment on it since it wasn't for cash obviously. Though if we don't complain, I wouldn't have gotten a pay rise (after inquiring for the over due pay rise, the complaint from me came after the offered pay rise was presented (which was very low) - the complaint worked immediately to bump the pay rise to the correct amount since it was obviously a very insulting pay rise from a very tight arse management.. and they knew it.
If you don't speak up - you don't get what you want or even deserve. It may break the illusion that everyone is happy. Don't let bosses walk over you.
That said - there are more people out there more talented and definitely more hungry than you (and obviously me) - why should I waste my time with your complaints? YOUR FIRED :)
But hey I didn't do the competition for a job, if someone liked my work enough to contact me for some freelance I would have been contacted already. I did it for the great feeling of people seeing my ship that I made, appreciating it & commenting on it... and also the chance for some prize money of course.
I'll probably die poor but if I can make something one day that people can appreciate - that's something I hope I can do. --------------------------------------------- Francis Wolcott: "I am a sinner that does not expect forgiveness. But I am not a government official."

Does anyone have a screen shot of the rules that were displayed on the front page of the contest? I'm having a bit of a flamefest on general CCP Starship contest... CCP couldn't run a tap of water if it tried
Anyway, I seem to remember CCP kept certain rules from the first contest (things like displaying ship length, don't display EVE Online logos etc) but that is no long displayed on the first page anymore and the link to the rules doesn't have it (anymore or it wasn't in the official rules??)
I'm too annoyed and aggro right now - its amazing, I haven't been this annoyed since I lost my first ship ha. I'll be leaving soon enough.

this has the rules on it
Thanks for that, though I won't be making this an issue anymore, I've annoyed too many people. It wasn't my intention to annoy other players. It was my intention to get an actual reply from CCP since I wasn't getting it privately.. so I end this now and say to those that are annoyed with me - I hope you don't get an issue that is ignored by CCP because bringing up on the forums probably wont help you at all.
